Punctuative! captures a conversation about change. On face, it’s the personal weblog of Matt Winn, a Louisville-based venture capitalist and curious optimist.
Matt grew up in Chevy Chase, MD, attending Maret and Princeton before leaping into the startup world, where he initially worked in marketing and business development at Manhattan-based DrJays.com, a clothing e-tailer. In January, 2005, Matt moved to Louisville to join Chrysalis Ventures, supporting the investment team on its three core areas of focus: healthcare services, media and communications, and business services.
Why “Punctuative?” Because change happens when a system in relative stasis is punctuated by some force or event. The concept is codified in evolutionary biology as “punctuated equilibria,” the “currently favored theory for the fluctuating patterns of evolution observed in the fossil record” (Wikipedia). Investors tend to use the term “disruptive,” but Matt finds “punctuative” more precise as a descriptor of change within a market. For a more complete explanation, head here.
