If imitation is flattery, the venture business should be enthused by the Wilson brothers’ recent spate of VC costume-bearing. First, Owen dons the hat in “Wedding Crashers” and now Luke takes the baton in “The Wendell Baker Story”:
“Venture capitalist: that’s the misleading job description preferred by the title character of the slight and silly “Wendell Baker Story.†Wendell (Luke Wilson), a cheerful Texan slacker, runs a profitable operation on the Tex-Mex border selling fake driver’s licenses to illegal migrant workers.” (Source)
Admittedly, it’s been the Wes Anderson films that won me over to this duo, but now I’m 100% sold.
PS. I rather like Stephen Holden’s continued description of Wendell as “a Panglossian eternal teenager at heart” - an aspiration, imitation (of VCs), or vilification? Life philosophies to debate in comments.
