I once fancied a career in advertising as a terrific outlet for my creative juices and balanced left/right brain work. But I never would have made it in the industry. Perhaps a couple months - just long enough for me to be put to work on an account for a company in which I have no faith. I’m an idealist and it smarts sometimes.
So imagine my displeasure when greeted with the following ad awaiting my publishing approval for punctuative!:
I write frequently about healthcare and tend to take stands. I do “stand up for change” but I have no idea what AARP’s petition is and there’s no way I’m going to blindly put up an ad for this petition without more information. In fact, after spending 10 minutes searching the web trying to turn up the petition, I’m still empty-handed.
Feedburner (my feed and advertising “agent”), I’m rejecting my first ad. Your service has been amazing and your pithy copy entertaining. I’d really appreciate the ability to “diligence” my ads, though. Perhaps a simple click-through to the advertisement’s destination? Maybe I simply missed it. Dick Costolo, say it’s so!
